Firmware Update to Sony 900H TV Series

Sony has announced the addition of the Apple TV app (home of its marquee streaming service Apple TV+) to its smart TVs.

The Apple TV app is now available for the X900H series TVs via a software update. Select 2018 models and most 2019 and 2020 models will receive an update during 2021.  This means that your Sony clients will be able to access Apple TV+ directly from their TV without requiring the use of a separate device or AirPlay 2.

What’s wrong with using an Apple TV box?

  • The inconvenience of dealing with multiple remotes, which you sometimes have to do when your Apple TV remote fails to also turn on the television.
  • Issues with IP control and the need for reboots to cure lock-ups will no longer be a problem or cause for a truck roll.
  • Using the Apple TV box also means that you also lose Sony’s Android TV home screen that teases out relevant content across various apps, something to help avoid aimlessly browsing Netflix or Prime Video.

The Firmware update to v6.0414 is now available on the Sony support website. Please confirm that your client’s TV has not already been updated to the newest firmware version.
